A source familiar with the application plans of Toyota and Tuning confirmed to Motor Trend that the Toyota FT-1 concept essentially previews the next-gen BMW Z4 and an a connection unnamed Toyota coupe, possibly the you need to Supra. The two cars will part a platform, but will be designed very differently.
As we previously specified, Toyota's technical partnership with OF HIGH QUALITY will yield one sports car for every automaker, similar to the tie-up with Subaru that produced the FR-S as well BRZ. BMW will lead production, as it has a steady supply of carbon fiber products from its Moses Lake, Wash. -based SGL plant. The BMW Z4 will use a carbon fiber tub like that of the i3 and i8. Our source tells us a two-seat roadster will be first, possibly plus a power retractable hardtop, with an N version to follow. As we've detected before, the Toyota version is without a doubt far less exotic compared to the FT-1, and possibly even less stylized than the Z4 to differentiate the two. Powertrains continue to unknown, but with BMW handling the entire carbon fiber bodies, engine development surely could fall on Toyota if locomotives are shared at all.
In other Toyota coupe news, it appears it may be months before we see another sporty 2 doors from Lexus. Rumors have swirled since the Lexus LF-LC's 2012 Of detroit debut that a production model am greenlit. But even if the luxury sports activities activities coupe was given the go-ahead, it's not going to hit the market for at least two years unless developing is expedited, our source lets us know. We last heard that the machine was a go, and that it would obtain several LFA design cues. In case the production version retains the concept's hybrid drivetrain remains to be seen.
